TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I believe writing is most meaningful when it connects to the lives students are actually living. My approach centers on real-world relevance — helping students recognize that the skills they develop in a composition or communication course are the same ones they will rely on in their careers, relationships, and communities. I meet students where they are, build confidence through structured practice and honest feedback, and hold the work to a high standard because I believe every student is capable of clear, purposeful writing. My goal is not for students to finish a course with a grade, but with a set of skills they will carry forward and continue to use.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

English Composition Instructor  |  Brown Mackie College  |  Findlay, Ohio  |  2009–2011

• Created original syllabi, lesson plans, online discussion questions, exams, and all classroom assessment materials for Composition I, Composition II, and Business Communications.
• Taught business writing across a variety of formats, including professional emails, formal and informal reports, memorandums, persuasive letters, and presentations.
• Edited and proofread student writing to ensure it was purposeful, persuasive, concise, and audience-oriented.
• Supervised campus writing lab, working one-on-one with students to improve writing across subject areas.
